Confessions of a List Addict

Hi, my name is Cindy and I love lists. Lists on notepads, post-its, backs of envelopes, my phone.

I write everything down. More than once. In more than one place.

I tear them off the pads and start another. I tear them out of the notebook and start another.

I love a clean sheet of paper. It’s just screaming for a list.

I approach my life with list in hand.

*The list of errands when I leave the house
*The grocery list
*The Home Depot/At Home/Michael’s/World Market list
*The to-dos around the house
*The to-dos for work (yes, God help me, I still have these)
*The what I am going to serve at the upcoming whatever
*Packing list for the upcoming trip
*The to-dos before the upcoming whatever

It’s never-ending. And of course List Management is a big part of my life. They must be sorted, stacked, Resorted. And when too many things are crossed off, they must be re-written.

I can hear you rolling your eyes.

We have already established that I am suffering from mild-to-moderate OCD (as they say on TV.)

As this is a new year, it’s time for some new lists. Not those everyday one above. These are the Big Two I make every year since Scott died. It helps me realize I’m still here and will be for a while longer.

The first is Things I Accomplished Last Year. This is a slow crawl through the last year and an accounting of pretty much everything I did that required me to be upright and functioning as a responsible, semi-healthy human being. I’m going to share it so you will know it didn’t take much to make the list. It does require that you read my writing which is hideous, much to my mother’s shame. She was an expert in the Palmer Method.

The second page as you can see are my Goals for 2023. You know the rule about goals: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based. Okay, so not all these are all those. But mostly do-able, with a little determination.

Some will require sub-lists that break them down into edible chunks. Preferably posted to the fridge. Right next to the other lists.

Oooh, I think I need to cross some things off that one.
