It’s Spring at the Widow Woman’s house and bunnies have laid eggs everywhere.
You know I love a good holiday as it is an unabashed excuse to decorate my house unabashedly. This morning, the plastic bins opened and out tumbled a pastel assortment of all the things I love about Spring décor: the aforementioned bunnies, eggs, neon-hued grass, baskets, and more of the same, some of them over 40 years old.
I try not to add anything new every year, but hey, I’m human and there’s a dollar store next to the post office (and a soap store, too, but that’s another blog) and I had to PEEP in. (Get it? PEEP? You know, like the marshma–oh, nevermind.) Anyway, I bought bottlebrush trees in an array of those same pastels. Couldn’t resist.
Also, out came the three-tiered tidbit, given by a sweet friend, that only makes an appearance at holidays to become bedecked. It takes to bedecking very well.
And any other surface that I can clear of its everyday mundane-ness (which tends to be a lot of beiges, browns and rusts) also gets a heavy dose of pastel cheerfulness.
The whole thing makes me smile so much. I just can’t be gloomy around all this Spring-ity.
Look, Spring is a signal of rebirth, a time when the earth is shedding the beiges, browns, and rusts of winter and dressing itself in a riot of color–everything from sweet pastels to neon brights.
It’s time for us to do the same. Shake off the dull doldrums of winter and embrace the colorful warmth of Spring. Hurry up! It’s Texas. Spring lasts about two weeks here and then we’ll be sweltering again in the grip of Summer. We have to enjoy this while we can.
Excuse me. I have to go change into something pink.

I am with you… changing into something pink right now! Time to shake off the brown and beige (and gray) of winter.
So true. And we look so much better is the brights. I’ve loved seeing all the pics of your folks recently! Such a great family!
